We recently visited Fiji, this was our third family trip to the island. We love visiting, the Fijians are very friendly and just love the kids.
When in Fiji it's a great time to relax but it's also a good opportunity for the kids to learn about a new culture.
Here are a few suggestions if you are planning a trip to Fiji or you might be thinking about one!

When in Fiji, learn some key Fijian words. The first word you will hear when arriving at the airport and you will then continue to hear throughout your entire trip is 'Bula". Bula meaning 'hello'. Some other common words are Vinaka; thank you and Moce (mo-they) goodbye.
Visit a local school, take supplies such as pencils, rubbers, pads to donate to the school. We went to Nadi Primary School and the principal informed us that these supplies are given out with awards at assembly. The staff at our resort organised our school trip and transfers at a very small cost. The trip was a wonderful experience for both the children and adults to see the differences between the schools.
If your staying on the main island take a trip out to one of the many smaller islands to go snorkelling and swim in the crystal blue waters. There are many different islands to visit, we chose Treasure Island which you can stay for 1/2 or full day. On Treasure Island our buffet lunch was included and we had an opportunity to feed the turtles and fish.
Check out how the locals live. Take a village tour or we caught the local bus (for only $1) and went into Nadi Town. We walked the strip in Nadi town went to the local supermarket and of course purchased some souvenirs. Be careful when visiting the town, some locals can persuade you into their shops and then demand you buy something.
Immerse yourself in their culture. Most resorts will have a cultural night with dancing and traditional food. At our resort the kids also had an opportunity to dress up and participate in the evening torch lightening. We also watched a show and the children were able to learn some dance moves.
A must in Fiji, hair braiding. The kids love it, I love it. After spending most days in the pool, it really makes it easy to look after. It's not just for the young kids, be brave as an adult and get a few. A got a few braids on the side and my kids thought it was the best! Just be warned taking them out isn't as much fun... It took me over 3 hours to take them all out once we returned home.
Most importantly take time to relax in Fiji.
Watch a sunset, read a magazine by the pool, eat a yummy buffet breakfast, go for a swim in the pool and enjoy the sun.
