This is the 4th year we have checked out the Vivid light festival in Sydney. Each year it seems to get bigger and better, but this year something was missing.
Ellie and Alyssa's Little Opinion - Ellie says “I love going to the city each year to see the lights, I like to touch them and look at all the pretty colours but this year it didn't turn out like I remember from previous years, we just seemed to keep on walking and walking to get to the next light".
Alyssa says “I cannot remember last years but I did like the pretty lights and I loved watching the Opera House change colours, but lots of people kept bumping into me". Ellie and Alyssa both loved being at the Opera House and looking at the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Luna Park lights and loved walking around with their Vivid light illuminators.
Mum's Big Opinion - Previous years we have been stuck in traffic and it has taken us forever to actually get into the city, this year we decided to get into the city around 5.00pm. This proved successful, there were no traffic issues and we went straight to the Opera House and parked no problem. There were crowds starting to build, but it wasn't too bad. We stopped for a bite to eat at Eastbank Café and pizzeria; the girls were then able to see the lights as we ate dinner.
This year we found that the lights were spread out and in this case it wasn't very friendly for the kids, we did a lot of walking. The girls really wanted to see the light up animals but they were just too far away. I think we also missed a lot of the lights as well as they were scattered around Sydney and no real structure.
I did learn if your kids are tired they will sleep anywhere, Alyssa ended up sleeping whilst standing so it was time to head back through the crowds. It was great to park centrally as it was getting late and the girls could sleep in the car. It’s defiantly worth checking out, but I think the key with kids is to get in early and see as much as you can before they collapse.
For more details visit their website; http://www.vividsydney.com/ it’s on until the 9th June and the lights come on at 6.00pm. We paid $35 for Opera House parking which is an all day rate on the weekend.
Vivid Lights, Sydney 2015 will run from 22nd of May until the 8th of June 2015.
