Random Musical is a totally spontaneous, totally improvised and totally random live show now showing at the Monkey Baa theater in Darling Quarter Sydney.
Each child audience member is provided with a pencil and paper to write down their first name and then a random word starting with the first letter of their name. A title for the musical is then conjured up using these random words and then the show starts.
The random words inspire every twist and turn of the show, sending the characters into spontaneous stories and songs. The audience is encouraged to help them out with naming the characters, making sound efforts and lending objects for props.
Each show is different and it's a show were anything is possible depending on your name. On the day we attended our musical was called Magic Monkey and 'that's pretty random'!

Alyssa's Little Opinion (6 years old) - My random word was Alligator, it didn't get called out during the show, but that's ok as lots of names were being called out.
At the end of the show I said to my mum ' that's pretty random and each show is different so that means we can go and see another one!'
My favourite part was seeing how Eddie the Magic Monkey was going to try and escape from the cage she had been locked up in.

Mitchell's Little Opinion (7 years old) - My random word was Mitsubishi, it didn't get called out but I thought that was a very random word.
I liked all the jokes about the stinky breath and the poos and farts.
My favourite part was when Rick the character had to put a fake peg on his nose as Eddie the monkey was really stinky!

Mum's Big Opinion - It was a full house on day 1 of the Random Musical. I loved the venue as the seats are close to the stage and you can interact and be involved with the characters on stage.
Not just at the start but throughout the musical the actors kept engaging with the audience and referring to the random words, this really kept the kids entertained for the full 50 minutes as you just didn't know what direction it was going to go in next.
It was lots of fun for all the family and I guarantee you will come out singing 'that's pretty random'!
