Little Opinions went back to the 80's to learn how to Roller Skate. A friend had told us about a rink at Emu Plains where they also offered lessons.
Little Opinions:  Ellie really enjoyed the class but was a little overwhelmed  when the class finished as everyone went got out on the rink, including was some very fast skaters. Alyssa loved learning to skate but walked away with a sore ankle, sore elbow, and a sore knee from all of the tumbles !!!!!

Little Opinions guest bloggers: Kaili enjoyed the limbo and going around in circles skating and Rhys just loved everything ! Both would love to do it all again.

After 1 1/2 hours of skating the kids were exhausted, but after all of the falling down the kids all agreed that they would definitely return again to skate - "We just loved it"!.

Mum's Big Opinion:  Is the Learn to skate class ideal for a four year old that has never skated? Yes, so we are told.
Step one - go and warm up! How do you warm up wearing skates when you have never skated!? 10 min warm up of holding onto the fence and trying not to fall over...

The instructor quickly ran through the basics, too fast for the little ones to comprehend. There were two instructors to a group of 11 beginners. It's really a case of the instructor giving an instruction of what to do once and sitting back and watching. One instructor spending some time helping individuals, the other observing. They really needed someone to reinforce the technique while watching the kids practice.

The best advice is to listen to the instructor and then reinforce with the kids yourself, get out on the rink if you have to.

Next, the pole comes out and we think great! the kids will hang on and now learn to skate. No! We are doing limbo! Thing is, the kids can't skate yet! Alyssa asks -" when am I going to learn to skate?"

The positive is that you don't need to book, just turn up on the morning. There is no additional cost for the lesson.

You cannot take your own food or drinks and there  is no efptos facilities.  The cost for the one hour lesson and then two hours of free skating afterwards was only $10, and if you don't own skates you can hire for $3.

The Skatel is located at Emu Plains and sessions can be found at there website:
