I never really considered afternoon tea to be an important part of the kids day.
For me, it's more like what can I find in the fridge or cupboard to get the kids through to dinner time.
That was until I received the eBook from Play With Food owner Simone Emery Afternoon Tea: The Next Most Important Meal of The Day.
The eBook provided me with a better understanding to why afternoon tea is important. The eBook Afternoon Tea: The Next Most Important Meal Of The Day contains activities to keep the kids entertained in the afternoon, food items to keep on hand for afternoon snacks and some great recipe ideas.

My concern with Afternoon Tea, was that it would always stop the kids from eating their dinner. I would therefore not give the kids too much and treat it as a bite on the run.
Over the past week I have changed my tactic (no more, biscuits or baked beans or a few grapes.) I have made pikelets and berries (yes there was some sneaky whipped cream but I am trying!), home made Banana bread, melted cheese fingers fruit sticks and more.
Along with the eBook Afternoon Tea the Next Most Important Meal of The Day that Play with Food has just released to encourage Afternoon Tea. Play with Food also run weekly classes and workshops for pre-schoolers and toddlers who are fussy eaters. The program includes gross motor exercises, songs, sensory exploration, preparing to eat, play with food activities, clean-up time and end of class routines. Classes go for 45 minutes.

Alyssa's Little Opinion: I have been loving mum making new afternoon tea snacks. My favourite would be the banana bread I could eat it all up! I also enjoyed squeezing the oranges to make frozen OJ's.
Ellie's Little Opinion: Mum has been so proud of me as I have been eating all my dinner, even when I have enjoyed and eaten my afternoon tea.
My favourite snack this week has been the pikelet's and berries. Mum says I can eat as many berries as I like and my lips turned bright red.
Mum's Big Opinion: After day 1 of eating a nice afternoon tea, I was pleasantly surprised that evening both my children ate their dinner which consisted of roasted chicken and vegetables. This also happened on day 2 and 3.
As suggested I always make sure that there is a 2 hour gap before dinner. Not every day am I going to be able to make a great afternoon snack due to after school activities or work. But I have a plan! The girls and I this weekend have been busily baking food that can be easily defrosted and for on the run we have snack boxes filled with yummy healthy stuff. Hopefully we can stick to our new afternoon tea routine.
