A Park or A Dump?

We couldn't stay home on a  beautiful sunny autumn day, so we decided to check out a new park.

My sister suggested Walpole Street Reserve located in Merrylands. When I googled the park, I found out that it used to be a dump! My initial reaction was I am not going to an old dump, it will smell....

Well I was very wrong, this was no dump at all. There is plenty of grass for the kids to run around on, there are BBQ facilities, clean toilets, a small and big playground, a pond (with real ducks) and the main attraction a bike track built just like a normal street with stop signs, roundabouts and pedestrian crossings.

Alyssa's Little Opinion: My favourite part of the park was being on my scooter and pretending to be riding on the road. I would always make sure I would stop and check if there was anyone at the crossing. This was a really fun park and I wish we could live near the park so I could visit it everyday. I had a GREAT time, I hope we go back again soon.

Ellie's Little Opinion: I really enjoyed the park. I liked learning the road rules and riding my scooter on the path. Of course I made sure I was riding in the right direction so I didn't cause an accident. I liked riding on the track as it really felt like you are on a real road just without the traffic lights.
I also went to the big play ground, it was fun climbing the ropes and the rock climbing wall. There wasn't anything bad about the park, it was so huge I didn't get a chance to explore it all.

Mum's Big Opinion: We all loved this playground including me. The car park was easily accessible from the main road and a good size. We got a car spot really quickly and it was a short walk to the park.

There was plenty of space to choose from to sit and eat our picnic lunch. The bike track was a hit, the track was big enough for the kids to keep them riding without being bored but small enough that you can keep an eye out for mishaps (and yes there were some). The track is a great way to reinforce bike safety rules and learn to abide the normal street rules.

The playgrounds had so much to offer, they were not just your traditional swings and slides. There were lots of kids about but due to the size of the park, it never felt crowded. As we went on an autumn day we soaked in the sun, but in summer it may be an issue as there is not a lot of shade available. We will be back there again.
Key Information:
- The park can be called Holroyd Gardens or Walpole Street Reserve
- It is open Monday to Friday – 7.00am to 5.00pm and Weekends – 9.00am to 5.00pm
