Each school holidays we like to put aside one adventure day and take the train or ferry or both and find a new spot for both the kids and adults to explore.

Our latest adventure was a train trip to the Hawkesbury River (we love our new Opal tap on and tap off cards) and then a short ferry ride across to the beautiful Dangar Island.

Once we arrived at Hawkesbury River and checked out the gorgeous view from the train station, we headed down to the playground where the kids could stretch their legs. The playground is enclosed so you cannot lose any little ones and they can swing, slide or climb.

After a play we headed for the boat shed to catch the ferry to Dangar Island or it could also be called a wooden boat? It was a nice quick, easy (although expensive) ride to the island.

At the island we enjoyed another play at a set of play equipment. We then headed off to explore the island. After our trek around the island, its all on foot no cars are allowed we stopped for morning tea at the Dangar Island Café. The cafe had the best banana bread and chocolate brownies, they were quickly eaten up.

After checking out the island we hopped back on the ferry to return to the mainland. Lunch time was nearing so we headed to the marina and ordered some fisherman's baskets. It was all nice, fresh seafood and very kid friendly. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes along the main road that you could choose from.

After lunch we went to check out the sand and water. Although it was not a hot day there where some daring kids in the water but ours stayed on the sand and built some sandcastles.

After a full day of exploring we returned to the train just before peak hour hit!  This was a fun day for everyone.

Alyssa's Little Opinion:  I love going on the train, it's so much fun watching everything out the window. It's so much fun going to new places, it's just like going on a holiday. My favourite part was the banana bread that was so yummy I've asked mum if we can go back just for that!

Ellie's Little Opinion: I enjoyed our trip, I liked going on the ferry and seeing the big Brooklyn Bridge. I also liked exploring on the island and checking it out. You would walk down some stairs and you wouldn't know where it would lead you. I think it would be fun to live on the island as you would have to get a boat to school everyday.

Special Guest Mitchell's Little Opinion: My favourite parts of the day included tap on tap off on the train platforms, Lunch at the café eating the fish and chips, the ferry ride across to the island and eating the banana bread at the Dangar Island Café.

Very cute...
I must admit when we first jumped on I was a little nervous! It's a very old traditional wooden boat ... But We loved it! I call it up close and personal to the water.

I feel a bit nervous on those small boats! They look a little similar to small ones that cross the Brisbane river and boy do they rock when the bigger ones come across :) Looks like a great day out though.

Vanessa, I agree I was a little nervous stepping on board but the water was pretty flat so it was an enjoyable ride.

What a great day out. Our daughter is a fan of banana bread too Alyssa.
I love the school holidays for the chance to take the kids on so many different adventures. While there is the weekends during school terms, often they are somewhat filled with sports & social commitments, or the weather doesn't co-operate!
Thanks for joining us at #TIK
